Dr. Barber directs Terra Environmental’s Marine Center in St. Petersburg, FL. He has over 20 years of experience conducting applied research for the fishing and aquaculture industries on the east coast of the United States. He has served as Principal or Co-Principal Investigator on over $4.75 million in grant funding and has designed, built, and supervised the operation of research facilities for universities and industrial clients. He is internationally recognized in the fields of aquaculture science and invertebrate reproduction and pathology.

Prior to joining Terra Environmental Services, Inc., Dr. Barber was Professor of Marine Science at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL and at the University of Maine, in Orono, ME; Assistant Professor at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (College of William and Mary), Gloucester, VA; and, Research Assistant Professor at Rutgers University (Shellfish Research Laboratory), Port Norris, NJ.

Previous environmental consulting experience includes employment as an Environmental Scientist for Florida Power Corporation (now Progress Energy), in St. Petersburg, FL and as Laboratory Manager for TraDet Laboratories, Inc., in Wheeling, WV.

• Sampling design, sample collection, and benthic community analysis in Tampa Bay and Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean

• Environmental resource permitting for dredging and dock and seawall construction (both commercial and private clients)

• Fisheries independent stock assessment

• Monitoring effects of elevated water temperature on seagrass communities near power plants

• Water sampling, analysis, and NPDES permitting and compliance for the coal and phosphate mining industries

Dr. Barber has over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals; several book chapters, and more than 50 published abstracts and technical reports (list available upon request).
